WORDS BY JOHN POLSON, CEO & HEAD DESIGNER, BLACK SHEEP CYCLING.

The power of colour has never been more true. The advent of the digital revolution has opened up a gamut that until four years ago was only ever experienced sparsely, at best. We have never been more spoilt for choice but never been less satisfied. I often find myself transfixed by palettes of yesteryear, with their relative naivety and the comfort they now provide an exhausted mind.

"In the Essentials – Euro Collection we have sought to transport you back to a time that did beautiful, easily."

In the Essentials – Euro Collection we have sought to transport you back to a time that did beautiful, easily. We have taken the true blues, greens, and pink hues and created a tone that is closer to something organic in nature, rather than synthetic in code. By adding a drop of grey to each hue, or shade to be technical, the Euro Collection gives you an earthy glow that is timeless and capturing.

We hope you enjoy our trip through time. I challenge you to see how these colours mix and work together so effortlessly. See how they beautifully match, or contrast in ensemble with almost limitless possibilities. This is how it should be. This is how we should all fall in love with colour.

HERON BLUE.

“It’s a colour that only nature could of dreamt up.”

Heron Blue is a powdery soft hue that speaks for our desire for ease and relaxation. If you are anywhere in the world bound by ocean, you will appreciate this colour and its sentiment. Named after the Blue Heron which has unmistakable natural feather colouring, Heron Blue is much more subtle than slate, yet so much more complex than straight blue. It’s a colour that only nature could of dreamt up.

WE WOULD RECOMMEND TO PAIR WITH BLACK OR NAVY BIBS, AND WITH BLACK, NAVY OR IMPERIAL ARMY VEST.

ITALIA PINK.

“La Gazzetta and the Giro gave the ownership of this beautiful pink hue to cycling.”

Inspired by the unmistakable pink pages of La Gazzetta della Sport and the Maglia Rosa. In what was a simple branding masterstroke to sell more papers, La Gazzetta and the Giro gave the ownership of this beautiful pink hue to cycling. Italia Pink is a soft yet powerful pink shade that engenders an aura of purity and history. A colour that tells the story of a great race and a great country.

IMPERIAL ARMY.

“One of Pantone’s chosen colours for 2017. But that’s just fluke.”

An earthy green that brings out memories of something – for everyone. Imperial Army, for me at least, was a Porsche 911 that was roaming the streets of London in the 1970s. No, I am not that old, but you have to respect this stuff. Ironically, a very similar tone to the 911 is a colour that so happens to be one of Pantone’s chosen colours for 2017 - kale. We didn’t plan that though. Imperial Army provides a perfect background for some of the more vibrant tones of the Euro Collection.

WE WOULD RECOMMEND TO PAIR WITH BLACK BIBS, ALTERNATING BLACK OR IMPERIAL ARMY VEST.
MALTED MINT.
“A reference to the old doors littered throughout Italy, but more specifically, Tuscany.”

Somewhere between the excesses of blue and green. It can be the rolling ocean, or an autumn sky. For me, Malted Mint was a reference to the old doors littered throughout Italy, but more specifically, Tuscany. Weathered by the elements and by lives. There is a story within, not just by the connections of people going through, but by the emotion the colour portrays. This is my favourite colour in our Euro Collection just by the personal connection I have with it.

The Essentials - Euro Collection is unashamedly all about colour. People connect with colour based entirely on their own emotions and perceptions. Think of how rare that is now – how much the art of forming your own opinion is decaying. Our perception of colour won’t change - it’s in our subconscious. You may or may not resonate with one or all of these colours, but hopefully you are now thinking about it’s power a whole lot more.
