It was with great gusto that we took Racing Club by Black Sheep to a global audience last week, launching both the very beginnings of our online portal (still lots to come in that respect), and hosting community events at home in The Woolshed and in partnership with Johnson Bicycles / Rouleur Espresso at our Melbourne satellite Club. We're not stopping there. More Club bashes are planned, so Kuala Lumpur, Medellin and London stay tuned, and our first global Racing Club Events are already in the calendar – see foot of page more information.
How times have changed. From humble beginnings two years ago, the newly renovated The Woolshed has firmly established its reputation for hosting many a local cyclist and knowing how to party. And what's a Racing Club bash without beers and a few cheeky espresso martinis? This was the order of the night for the global launch of Racing Club in Brisbane. Plenty of old and new faces were kept well-fed by The Bun Mobile with beers on tap and the coffee-fused martinis made by The Woolshed's very own Luke Shilling.
A quick Q&A with the coffee magician himself as well as resident bike wizard, Poul Peterson, was followed by some advice from Club Captain Adam Wylie on the appropriate speed of a recovery ride and how to identify anyone that doesn't abide by our strict 'no dickheads policy' – the one and only rule of Racing Club.
All in all, a great night that had everyone keenly wondering when the next little soiree at The Woolshed will be.
A damp winters night didn't deter a welcoming crowd at Johnson Bicycles in Abbotsford, for the launch of Racing Club Melbourne. Paul and Ben from Johnson have created an incredible community, in which we are lucky to share, by offering bespoke bikes, handpicked accessories and the finest locally sourced coffee.
The evening was an excellent opportunity to meet new and old friends, talking everything from the best local loops, Strava segment hunting (hands up Nick Squillari) and hidden gravel roads all located on Melbourne's doorstep. An incredible selection of food served by Bridget from Rouleur Espresso was the perfect accompaniment to a great evening.
With bunch rides rolling out 4-5 times a week, Racing Club Melbourne offers no excuses for the time poor - the Hour of Power on a Wednesday morning to adventures and challenging rides on the weekend, be sure to drop into Johnson Bicycles when in Melbourne.
As well as regular rides out of our satellite locations, we will also be committing to larger scale global, regional and country-specific events throughout the year.
ZWIFT NIGHT RIDERS HANDICAP RACE SERIES.
Begins July 25 for 6 weeks
First up, is a six-week handicap race series run on the indoor cycling app, Zwift. What better way to bring our global community together than on this virtual platform. We’ve done it before with the Man Ride. But this time it’s a race. Open to everyone with all the David versus Goliath charm of a regular real-life Handicap Race Series.
FIRST CLUB TRAINING CAMP.
From September 27-29
Our online race series will be closely followed by a Members Only Racing Club Training Camp. A strictly limited event happening in the lush hinterland of the Gold Coast, Australia. Away from the rigours of your daily routine, you will spend 3 nights and two days in a ‘pro-style’ camp with expert guidance from coaches, conditioning experts and nutritionists. Revel in some of the best riding you will ever do and relax in island-style luxury while regaling stories of the days suffering.
Racing Club by Black Sheep has been established to provide the foundations for every rider in our global community to ride how they want to ride. Whether you are racing against yourself, racing against your mates, or racing in competition, we are providing our community with the platform and the network to do what you want. Or just have fun riding a bike.
