Italy can lay claim to any number of honours when it comes to The Worlds, most notably the first-ever Road Race victory in 1927 won by Alfredo Binda. But our favourite is the flamboyant Mario Cipollini. In 2002, the year the 'Lion King' won the World Champs in Belgium, he was arrested for motorpacing on an Italian autostrada – noting it was the only place where he could safely get up to top speed for training. God love, Super Mario.
