Inspiration can be a funny thing. If ever there was a time we listened, it was in a gathering of a group of 20-somethings teaching us about "trends". These riders are here not for a good time, but for the best time. They have their fingers on the pulse of the latest and greatest in the world of cycling and beyond, from trip-strip base layers to the trendiest Crocs Jibbitz - so it’s fair to say we should lend them our ears.
ARA | Skip Capital is a team punching well above their weight, spending more time on the podium than back at the team car - they deserve a collection curated to their intent. In this world, we need sponsors to feel they have prime real estate and ensure the team looks professional and respectable, all while honouring the youthful vivacity of this young team and the visual standards we have spent years creating.
Developing the best product is not a goal, it's a requirement. Unlike the majority of us, team riders are regularly putting in over 500km of chamois time a week, making them well-placed to share feedback on durability, comfort and performance. We need products that make the riders feel as fast, as light, as cool, and as comfortable as possible. Easy.
A tailwind increases everyone's speed, so to speak.
This has led us down a path of optimisation and refinement to ensure the team is wearing the most technically advanced garments. As part of our XXIII Racing & WMN project (coming soon), technologies such as specially textured sleeves that aid in both aerodynamics and cooling. Compressive fabrics in the bibs which increase blood supply to tiring muscles and hold the chamois in place during the biggest efforts. The attention to detail required almost rivals that of an F1 team. The trickle-down effect means we bring more well-considered products to market to elevate everybody’s riding experience. A tailwind increases everyone's speed, so to speak.
Designing for the young and motivated is easy, right? Opinions are never short. ARA | Skip Capital set the bar high in the peloton last season in terms of looks, so the pressure was on to harness some of the visual equity we had created. 2023 sees a youthful and exciting colour palette introduced with vivid blues and pinks breaking up the traditional tones in the bunch with a burst of energy.
An intricate overlaying pattern adds an element of dynamic movement and speaks to the technological astuteness needed at this level. By using a tight colour palette and keeping the overall mood of the kit light we have the perfect base on which to give sponsors their pride of place, ensuring their efforts to support the team are represented accordingly.
Throughout the month of January, we celebrate the future of cycling. The riders and teams that are the future of our sport. The young women and men that drive for excellence in the peloton, and drive brands like us to pick up our game and keep innovating. From National Championships to the World Tour, it’s a month that defines what is truly important in our sport. It’s the most important time of year for Black Sheep.
