The 46th Baby Giro has concluded, marking one of the closest General Classifications we've seen in years. The top 10 was separated by merely four minutes, and no rider won more than one stage.
Our preview spotlighted Johannes Staune-Mittet (Norway) as the prime contender for the overall title. Johannes, having placed second to Cian Uijtdebroeks at the Tour de l’Avenir in 2022, and his Jumbo-Visma teammates, did not disappoint. Spoiler - he won. Alec Segaert of Lotto-Dstny (Belgium), at only 20 years old, blazed through the opening ITT stage at 52km/hr, demonstrating the pedigree to advance through the professional ranks.
As the top U23 climbers battled for seconds, our ARA-Skip Capital were soaking in the experience, continuously learning, and celebrating a week of firsts: racing over 4,000m of climbing, competing across eight stages, ascending the Stelvio pass, racing over 175km, participating in an Italian race, and racing in a specific U23 competition for the first time.
"The Baby Giro is a massive event. We've never raced anything like it before. Just finishing was an achievement, given the highs and lows. We didn't achieve our goal of getting into the decisive breaks or taking a stage win, but I still think we can be proud of our achievements nonetheless."

We have absolutely loved being in Italy to continue to cover the future of cycling. The hopes and dreams of U23 racing is infectious - true racing by athletes putting everything on the line, with nothing to lose.
For now, we will take a short break before another group of talented young cyclists pin numbers on at the U23 Tour de France (Tour de l’Avenir), starting on the 20th August, 2023. You can learn more about our work with ARA-Skip Capital, our sponsorship of the U23 Tour de France, and everything else within our Future Project right here.
